About Me

Hello 🙂

About Me – I live in Johannesburg, South Africa. Currently, I work freelance as a commercial artist, illustrator, 3D modeler, and graphic designer. As an aside about me, I am also a fine artist, and paint when I’m not doing commercial art. Fine art, painting, illustration, and graphic design have always held a fascination for me, and in recent years also 3D modeling.

I was fortunate enough to have had several mentors during school and in my first position as a graphic designer/illustrator at a prolific design agency.

I’ve worked in the advertising industry for over 30 years, acquiring experience in traditional and digital illustration, 3D modeling, graphic design, and imagery…

My specialisations are realism, photo-realism, and hyper-realism. I’m able to work in various styles to meet specific briefing requirements. My work is defined by the attention to detail I employ. My work aesthetic and purpose is to create visually compelling visuals. Even though realism is my forte, I do also enjoy a more painterly, abstract approach. I aim to captivate the viewer and meet a client’s objectives and goals, within briefing constraints.

I use a combination of traditional media and digital processes in my workflow. For digital art workflow, the main applications used are Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. My key competencies as a commercial artist are digital illustration, 3D modeling, graphic design, and image-making. I utilise the Foundry’s Modo, Blender and Pixologic Zbrush for 3D modelling. Specialities are character development, prototyping, modeling, and rigging. In addition, I also do prototyping, final renders, compositing and colour grading.

I have a passion for fine art and painting and accept commissions for portraits, figurative, wildlife and landscape paintings. Follow the link for my fine art site for more information. Leisure pursuits… I’m a keen fly-fisherman, enjoy the outdoors, time with family and friends, a good movie and I often cook up a storm in the kitchen.
